This month in Doha, The International Association of University Presidents served as one of six organizational partners for the 2011 World Innovation Summit for Education, along with the Institute for International Education, UNESCO, Rand, the Association of Commonwealth Universities, and Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF).
The second WISE Program for Education Leadership took place in Doha, Qatar from September 25 - 28, 2011. Sponsored by the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, and co-organized by IAUP, this four-day workshop is conducted annually to help prepare the next generation of global higher education chief executives to manage the challenges and opportunities that lay ahead.
Every three years, IAUP hosts a Triennial, which is the largest gathering of chief executive officers from universities around the world. The 16th IAUP Triennial was held on June 17-20, 2011 at the Marriot Marquis Hotel, directly overlooking Broadway and Times Square in New York City. The Triennial marked the transition of leadership from President Barham Madain Ayub (2008-2011) to President J. Michael Adams (2011-2014).
This proposal examines a realistic solution to Africa's complexity in Higher Education. Academic Chairs for Africa has received support from many individuals and associations such as the United Nations, UNESCO, the World Bank and the African Development Bank. This proposal continues to gain momentum based on the advice and concern of those that experience Higher Education within Africa.
The IAUP Executive Committee, at its recent meeting in Tokyo approved the creation of an International Faculty Achievement Award that will recognize extraordinary achievement in curriculum development, service, and teaching to prepare world citizens.

2010 North East Asia IAUP Conference
Zhejiang Gongshang University, Hangzhou ChinaThe annual North East Asia Conference was held in the city of Hangzhou, China on November 26-29, 2010. Development Tendencies of Higher Education in North East Asia and the cooperation between Universities were the core themes. Hu Jian Maio, President of Zhajiang Gongshang University and Chair of the NE Asia Council, reported on progress and prospects on Internationalization of Higher Education.
The Executive Committee and Council of Senior Advisors Meeting of the IAUP was held in Tokyo, Japan, hosted by President Toyoshi Satow of the J.F. Oberlin University and President Ichiro Tanioka of the Osaka University of Commerce, at the Hotel Nikko Tokyo. This meeting brought together a good number of IAUP representatives from around the world, and some special invited guests, to discuss important issues related to present and future activities of our Association, from the perspectives of their respective institutions, countries and regions.
IAUP President-elect, J. Michael Adams, represented IAUP as a featured speaker at the III World Forum of Alliance of Civilizations in Rio de Janeiro, May 27-29, 2010. Dr. Adams joined the Director-General of UNESCO, Irina Bokova, Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri, Director-General of ISESCO in Saudi Arabia, and Malaysian Crown Prince Raja Nazrin Shah in the plenary session, “Education for an Intercultural Citizenship,” co-organized with UNESCO.
IAUP completed separate reciprocal partnership agreements with Universities Australia, UDUAL (Unión de Universidades de América Latina y el Caribe) and UNIMED (Mediterranean Universities Union).
IAUP is proud to work with the United Nations on the new initiative, Academic Impact. Academic Impact is a global initiative that aligns institutions of higher education with the United Nations in actively supporting ten universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, literacy, sustainability and conflict resolution.

The Executive Committee of the IAUP was held in Casablanca, Morocco, hosted by Former President Mohammed Barkaoui and President Khalid Naciri of the University Hassan II, at the Hotel Hyatt Regency.

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil IAUP Executive Committee Meeting and Latin American Seminar
October 18-21, 2009The latest IAUP Executive Committee Meeting and Latin American Seminar were held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil at the SOFITEL Hotel on October 18-21. Several initiatives took place including discussions dealing with the Academic Impact, Commission on Disarmament Education, Conflict Resolution and Peace, and the Academic Chairs for Africa.
Alexandria, Egypt IAUP Executivve Committee Meeting and Council of Senior Advisors Meeting
May 7-10, 2009The Executive Committee Meeting was held in Helnan Palestine Hotel. Mr. Enan Galaly, member of the IAUP Council of Senior Advisors, generously hosted the meeting on the historical bay of Alexandria. Highlights for the meeting were: Universities for Africa and LDCs, Alliance of Civilizations, the Academic Impact Project, and the IAUP/UN Commission on Disarmament Education, Conflict Resolution and Peace.
