Caucasus University awards honorary doctorate degree to IAUP President

On July 30, 2022, the Caucasus University of Tbilisi, Georgia, awarded an Honorary Doctorate to IAUP President, Dr. Fernando León García, for his distinguished contribution to internationalization in higher education. León-García received the recognition from Dr. Kakha Shengelia, Caucasus University President and IAUP Chairman of the Board, during the institution’s graduation ceremony.

Honorary doctorates were also conferred to: President of the University of Johannesburg, Dr. Tshilidzi Marwala, a world- renowned specialist in the field of mathematical modelling of the dynamics of complex systems and Kyrgyzstan’s first elected president (1990-2005); Askar Akaev, the foreign member of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences; and famous French Kartvelologist, Professor Bernard Outtier. Professor Tsisana Bibileishvili of Caucasus University was also awarded the Order of Academic Palms by the French Ambassador for her exceptional contribution to Georgian-French academic relations.

Guests invited to the event included: Giorgi Volski, First Deputy Chairperson of the Parliament; Nunu Mitskevichi, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Georgia; Tamar Makharashvili, First Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, and other official government representatives, as well as the French Ambassador to Georgia, Diego Colas, and other invited guests from the diplomatic community.
