2022 IAUP International Business Model Competition winners announced

On August 18, 2022, the Awards Ceremony for the 2022 IAUP International Business Model Competition took place virtually, with participants from around the world. 

As part of its 2021-2024 Strategic Initiatives, the International Association of University Presidents, together with CETYS University, California State University, San Bernardino, and SIAS University, launched the International Business Model Competition, a pilot program inviting undergraduate students from a select group of institutions to create business models that contributed to the 2030 United Nations Development agenda.

In this call, students were invited to participate by generating an innovative business model that addresses unmet needs or problems arising in national or international contexts, with products or services that fulfill at least one objective of the 2030 United Nations Agenda for Sustainable Development while considering national and international development policies.

There were two categories of participation: Projects and models developed for University benefits, and Projects and models developed for Community benefits

In total, projects from three continents were evaluated by an independent group of experts, covering SDGs such as Quality Education; Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure; Gender Equality; and Responsible Consumption and Production.

The 2022 Winners of the International Business Model Competition were:

First Place:

Chip Craftsman, from ​​Hunan Normal University, China.

In this MicroChips development project, the system of “Industry-University-Research co-creation” is innovated to protect China’s intelligent manufacturing.

Second Place:

World Academy for the Future of Women, from SIAS University, China.

World Academy for the Future of Women (WAFW) is a bold and daring leadership program to develop young people, especially women, as leaders who engage and address the United Nations.

Third Place:

The Fantasy of Hunan Culture, from Hunan Normal University, China.

The Fantasy of Hunan Culture stands for the unique charm of Hunan embroidery and the intangible cultural heritage.

Winners are awarded resources to continue developing their business model ideas. The call for the 2023 Business Model Competition will open on October 2022.
