
Addressing Complex Global Challenges: “To Innovate, To Include” Human Rights Webinar
In commemoration of Human Rights Day, the IAUP hosted the Webinar – “Human Rights 2023: To Innovate, To Include” on December 11, 2023, with close to 100 registered participants from over 25 countries. The panel featured a diverse group of speakers with expertise in various fields, offering diverse knowledge and perspectives while addressing topics ranging from higher education and diplomacy to peace advocacy, gender rights, and the transformative power of music.
Panelists included: IAUP President Dr. Fernando Leon Garcia; Ambassador Zlatko Lagumdzija, former Prime Minister of Bosnia and Herzegovina; prominent peace educator, activist, and Nobel Prize Nominee Cora Weiss; Nguyen Anh Tuan, Co-founder and CEO of the Boston Global Forum, recognized for his visionary leadership in AI and government; Dr. Mihir Kanade, Academic Coordinator of the University for Peace, who specializes in international law and human rights, serving on the UN Human Rights Council’s Expert Mechanism on the Right to Development; Dr. Ş. İlgü Özler, founder and director of the SUNY Global Engagement program, who focuses on civic engagement, political science, and global governance; and Juliana Cesar, Vice President of the Civil-20 engagement group for the 2024 G-20, a dedicated lawyer and senior advisor on gender issues in Brazil. The session concluded with a video by Beth Nielsen Chapman, a Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter recognized for both her musical contributions and her advocacy for grief and creativity.
The discussions at the panel underscored the ongoing need for global collaboration and innovative approaches to address complex challenges, with the intersectionality of issues highlighting the interconnected nature of our world.
