Dr. Devorah Lieberman inducted into HACU Hall of Champions

Dr. Devorah Lieberman, President Emerita of the University of LaVerne (ULV) and IAUP Executive Committee member, was inducted into the 2023 Hall of Champions by the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) as a testament to her dedication to promoting the success of Hispanic students in higher education. As the first female president of the University of La Verne, a renowned institution in Southern California, Dr. Lieberman’s leadership was marked by exemplary contributions to the Hispanic community, including solidifying the university’s position as a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI), with the student population surging to nearly 60 percent Latino during her tenure. Embracing inclusivity and diversity, Dr. Lieberman’s leadership ensured that almost half of the university’s traditional undergraduates were first-generation students, with over 70 percent receiving some form of financial aid.

Her transformative impact resonates through the institution’s commitment to fostering a supportive environment for all students, exemplifying her dedication to advancing education and opportunity for the Hispanic community and beyond. With over three decades of experience in higher education, Dr. Lieberman has garnered numerous accolades, including the ACE Bringing the World into the Classroom award and the TIAA-CREF Theodore M. Hesburgh Award for Excellence, among others.
