On May 30, 2024, the International Association of University Presidents (IAUP) hosted a virtual awards ceremony via Zoom to celebrate the remarkable achievements of participants in the III IAUP International Business Model Student Competition. The event, aimed at fostering innovation and collaboration among undergraduate students, drew contributions from 40 projects across 12 universities in 10 countries. This event, part of IAUP’s 2021-2024 Strategic Initiatives, is designed to inspire the next generation of leaders to create innovative business models that address global challenges, aligning with the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The ceremony commenced with opening remarks by Dr. Noé Chirino, Director of Strategic Initiatives at IAUP, who emphasized the competition’s role in nurturing social responsibility and entrepreneurial spirit among students. Dr. Grethel Nevarez Castro, a full-time professor at CETYS University, elaborated on the significance of the 2030 Agenda, highlighting how the competition encouraged students to develop business models that tackle issues such as poverty, hunger, climate change, and gender equality. The projects were evaluated by independent experts based on their potential to contribute to national and international development policies, with categories focusing on both university and community benefits.

The highlight of the event was the announcement of the winners. In third place was Nottingham Trent University from the United Kingdom with their project “Save Reality.” Daffodil International University from Bangladesh secured second place with “HydroZen Labs.” The first place honor was awarded to CETYS University from Mexico for their project “Mini Minds.” Each team presented their innovative ideas, showcasing their commitment to creating sustainable solutions for global challenges.
