Mentorship and Leadership Strategies for Emerging Higher Education Leaders

In a recent article published in University World News titled “Pearls of Wisdom: Expert Mentorship for New HE Leaders,” Paul Cochrane delves into the evolving strategies and thinking of newly appointed higher education leaders as they navigate their most pressing challenges. It is based on experiences from participants at the III IAUP Seminar on Leadership Development for New and Emerging Leaders, held in late 2023 in Doha, Qatar, where they engaged with experienced global mentors.

The seminar, featuring over 20 speakers from various countries, covered themes such as leadership, governance, digital transformation, and more. Participants like Professor Letlhokwa George Mpedi, Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the University of Johannesburg; Mohamud Hassan, Rector of Zamzam University of Science and Technology; and Professor Dr. Yawar Hayat Khan, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics) of Riphah International University, shared that the mentorship and discussions provided valuable validation of their strategies, offered new insights, and effectively addressed their leadership challenges.

The next IAUP Seminar on Leadership Development will be held July 22-25, 2024, in Aarhus, Denmark, continuing the tradition of fostering mentorship and collaboration among higher education leaders.
