President of IAUP Dr. Neal King published an article reflecting on the state of global higher education as well as IAUP Presidency 2011-2014. The title of the article is “Creating Global Citizens”. The article was published by University World News.
Approximately forty delegates, including more twenty active and former vice chancellors, gathered in Livingston, Zambia, just a few miles away from the legendary Victoria Falls, from 3 to 5, April 2014. The conference was attended by delegates from both public and private universities from East Africa, Southern Africa and West Africa.
Established in 2004, the Asia-Pacific Association for International Education Annual Meeting brings together higher education institutions from the Asia-Pacific region and beyond. This year, in Seoul, Republic of Korea, the meeting was attended by a delegation from the International Association of University Presidents (IAUP), including Secretary-General Jason Scorza, Vice Provost for International Education at Fairleigh Dickinson University, and Treasurer-Elect Ichiro Tanioka, President of Osaka University of Commerce.
Marking its second year of cooperation with the ACE Center for Internationalization and Global Engagement (CIGE), a delegation from IAUP including IAUP President-Elect Toyoshi Satow, Chancellor of J.F. Oberlin University (Japan), IAUP North American Council Chair Don Betz, President of University of Central Oklahoma, IAUP Treasurer-Elect Ichiro Tanioka, President of Osaka University of Commerce (Japan), IAUP Secretary-General Jason Scorza, Vice Provost for International Education of Fairleigh Dickinson University (USA), and IAUP Secretary-General-Elect Alvaro Romo, Special Advisor to the President of Osaka University of Commerce, attended the Annual Meeting of the American Council on Education (ACE) in San Diego, in March 2014.
Dr. Errol Morrison, President of University of Technology (Jamaica) and Chair of IAUP Caribbean Region, published an article reflecting on higher education in the Caribbean region. The title of the article is “Let us focus research on what we do best”.
European Women Rectors Platform and Istanbul Technical University are co-sponsoring the 4th European Women Rectors Conference which will be held in Istanbul on May 15-17, 2014. The theme of the conference is “Beyond the glass ceiling: Women rectors across Europe – the role of leadership in structural changes”.
Members of the International Association of University Presidents (IAUP), including its Executive Committee and Board of Directors, convened in Montego Bay, Jamaica, from January 30 to February 2, 2014, for its final Semi-Annual Meeting of the 2011-2014 Triennium. Hosted by Prof. the Hon. Errol Morrison, President of University of Technology (Jamaica) and Chair of the IAUP Caribbean Council, the meeting brought together academic leaders from around the world for discussion of issues of concern to higher education within the region and beyond.

More than twenty higher education chief executive officers gathered in Doha, Qatar, from 25-28 October 2013, for the Fourth Annual WISE Program for Education Leadership. Developed by the International Association of University Presidents (IAUP) in partnership with the Institute for International Education (IIE), the program seeks to prepare newly appointed presidents, rectors, and vice chancellors for the personal and professional challenges of leading their respective institutions. The program was hosted and sponsored by the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development.
We enter now into a transitional year for IAUP – with a phenomenal 2014 Triennial conference taking shape for Yokohama in June, under the talented leadership of 2014-2017 President-Elect Chancellor Toyoshi Satow and his colleagues – and the final semi-annual and regional meetings of the 2011-2014 presidency taking place in the next few months.
IAUP invites members to nominate students for the UNAI/ELS Essay Contest. Winners will be sponsored to participate in a Global Youth Forum to take place between June 25-29, 2014 at the United Nations in New York City.
The IESB University Center in Brasilia, Brazil, recently held an International Seminar on “The Impact of Globalization and New Technologies on Higher Education.” This seminar was co-sponsored by the IAUP and the United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) and took place on November 11-12, 2013. The attendees came from throughout Brazil as well as other countries.
The IAUP panel "Tertiary Education Leadership: Innovating into the Future" was held on October 30, 2013 as part of the official WISE 2013 program. The focus was university leaders (presidents, rectors, vice chancellors) highlighting opportunities and imperatives to create dynamic and enduring institutions serving emerging generations with innovation and adaptation at the heart of their success. The panelists featured innovation as the force that will allow tertiary education leaders to charter the path to the future of their institutions, taking into consideration current trends in higher education. After the panel presentations, participants had an opportunity to provide their own input and reactions on the topic.
